Women..especially Liberian women are very beautiful in all natural aspects. Hardworking, and always considerate, resourceful, and puts her family first, be it immediate, or extended. But thet question that comes to mind is, why artificialize all this beauty with wigs? Even being bald makes some women attractive, and pronounces their sexuality. Well you women out there, take this and run with it.... |

I for one do not see the need for this. To me, this expresses a feeling of insecurity with oneself. This creates a sense of trying to look, or be what they are not, irregardless if it makes them look better. I met a nice lady some times back, and I went to pick her up for a dinner date. As we drove down the highway, I opened the sun roof of my '98 Jaguar to enjoy the summer breeze. She quickly, and nervously asked me to close it back up. I could not figure this out as she had very long hair, mid-back length, and well groomed. It was not till the next morning that I realized why the sudden guesture. Maybe it would have flown out in the air. But to me, she looked more beautiful without the wig. But I could not convince her of that notion. I guess some of us would never know, why there are numerous types, and colors of wigs habouring in the closets of out women.

Why do women wear wigs? Let me ask you, why do you get your hair cut?
I'm not sure if you guys know how much it cost for women to get their hair done these days. But it's not cheap at all. A girl can go broke trying to hit the beauty shop every week or every two weeks. Weather a woman is having a bad hair day or just want to be versatile, sometimes it's easier and cheaper to throw a wig on and runs out the door.
Thank God I have the skills to do hair so I don't have to worry about wearing a wig or spending too much money in the shop.
Ladies: if you wear a wigs and looks sharp in it, I say do you.
Gentlement: wig wearing should be the least of your worries
You all stay blessed |

You asked why gentlemen get haircuts. Well getting a haircut is not the same as wearing a wig. One is cutting it off, and the latter is putting it on. I do understand that it cost a lot to get a woman's hair styled. But that is not a good reason to wear a wig. Get a good man who will bear that cost and responsibility. I know that I would for my "woman". Our Liberian women usually wear a head-tie, if they don't want to be bothered with fixing up the hair. It is good that you know how to style your own hair, and not go to the beauty shop to have it done. This is the basic skill that was taught to every Liberian girl as she was growing up. That is, the ones who grew up in Liberia. The ones here go with the flow, and blend in. But all the same, some do look good in the wigs, but my thing is, it is not natural and gives the woman extra worries; not letting it fall off, or fly out, or it being too hot under there, and itches. Maybe they should create a wig for the other palce too, now that would be a sight to see. |

Alright sir, I see your point but let me break down some of your comments:
First of all this little statement of yours, was unnecessary “Maybe they should create a wig for the other place too, now that would be a sight to see”.
Secondly, “One is cutting it off, and the latter is putting it on”. I understand the difference but you have to realize that some men (both Liberian and African Americans) do get their hair braided with extensions. So yes, they are putting on. Now you tell me what’s the excuse for that?
Third, “get a good man who will bear that cost and responsibility.” True but it is 2006 and you have more independent women around that will disagree with that statement. Plus not every man can handle that responsibility.
Fourth, “Liberian women usually wear a head-tie, if they don't want to be bothered with fixing up the hair.” True again, but around these parks, I don’t think a Liberian woman will walk into her office with a head-tie on her head.
Very unprofessional!
Fifth, “This is the basic skill that was taught to
every Liberian girl
as she was growing up. That is, the ones who grew up in Liberia.” This one is what I call a TRUE AND FALSE. True doing hair is a basic skill that is taught to some Liberian girls. False on the every Liberian girl being taught this basic skill. Not every Liberian girl was taught or knows how to braid/do hair. Just like not every Liberian girl knows how to cook.
Sixth, “but my thing is, it is not natural and gives the woman extra worries; not letting it fall off, or fly out, or it being too hot under there, and itches.” Yes it may not be natural to you but if a woman wants to enhance her beauty by wearing a wig or whatever her reason may be, than more power to her. I remember when I was little and my mom use to press my hair, I spend a lot of time jumping when that hot crease hit my scalp. And she would always say that
beauty don’t know pain
.

Ok my Girl.
I agree that the first point you made was a bit to the left, and extreme on my part, cuz that process is impossible. Your second point is not too agreable. Men who have their hair braided, including extentions are very foolish, and want-to-be different. You name me one top business executive, who heads a multi-million corporation has his hair braided; barring the rap, and hip-hop. industries. Then you consider all the presidents,vice-presidents, ministers, Senators, etc. of any country in the world with braided hair. Your third point about some independant women, true as that may be. The responsible ones would always make a budget for the grooming of her hair. The men that cannot pay for their lady's hair styling need to just move along and leave that woman alone. Your fourth point; Have you seen pictures of our new President lately? I am sure you have seen her proudly wearing her head-tie in fashionable manner. Liberian women/African Women who don't wear head-tie in places of business are ashamed of their heritage if the attire requires a head-tie to go with it, and they do not sport it. Your fifth point leaves me with the notion that, if an African woman does not know how to braid hair, or cook, it is by choice. Because I do know that every die-hard African women knows these things all too well. That's why Fella Ramti Kuti sang about "Lady Nah Master...African Woman go dance the Fire Dance...but Lady no be so". Your sixth point made me laugh as I remember my sisters doing the same thing, curling up as the hot comb got near the ear, sometimes it burnt the ear too. But again this was, and still is not the reason to sport a wig. |

You know the same can be asked of men. Yes....some men do wear a wig (called a toupe (pronounced too'pay).
If you're interested in the person and not the extensions of her beauty, like her hair, nails and color of eyes....... it shouldn't matter that the hair is waist long, eye purple or the nails dagger long. Get with it gentlemen..... some women do this for the sake of men, to look different or maybe a bad hair day. Whatever the reason, I believe that like that old addage..." beauty is in the eyes of the belolder",..........so guys be quiet and behold her beauty.....natural or bought. |

Point well taken, but have you ever heard the saying “when in Rome do as Romans do?” I can not argue the fact that our president can dress to the T with her head-tie and she does look fabulous. But I will disagree with this “Women who don't wear head-tie in places of business are ashamed of their heritage.” Being the president of an African country, that is acceptable to wear the entire outfit including the head-tie. I guarantee you if she was the president of IBM or General Mill, she would not be sporty the head-tie to work. You see most company have a dress code, that’s where that saying falls into place “when in Rome do as Romans do.” Every body can’t go to work dress with an African outfit on, but that doesn’t mean that they are ashamed of their heritage. I’ll rock an African outfit if it is suitable for the occasion/situation but that can not be an everyday work clothes. I have to be comfortable at work. When you have to physically retrain people at work, dressing that sharp doesn’t work.
You may not like the whole idea about wigs or never understand it, but it’s that lady preference and there is not much to do about it. I don’t like or understand the idea of the whole oversize pants hanging of a man’s butt, but if that’s how he feels he needs to dress than more power to him. I may not understand it, but I can’t stop that style of dressing.
A top executive that wear a wig/toupee is Donald Triumph.

Well kru_liberiangirlWith must said about this wig thing, I guess to each his own. The lady and the wig are gone now so I dont I have to worry about that. Those guys with the pants down are very comical, and their walking bull-legged to prevent it from falling. Same as those guys that drive the Chevy, and Oldsmobile with the music thumping so loud that it hurts your eardrum 4 blocks away. Its the FAD of the day.
You stay Blessed, and have a very good New Year. Tune in for some news about Rinabear07, and Rodger later! |
