Do what I do.. or should I say say what I say..
Give them a break down of your basic food and transport
expenses. Tell them how much you spend on gas and electric,
and if you drive break down the expenses.
And tell them what the minimum wage is per hour and ask them
to work out how many hours it takes to earn what you need to
live on.

Seriously, I started asking and nagging ( I did not need anything).
They soon got the message. Before they ask, the trick is for you
to start .."Please can you assist me" trust me it works.

U do not have 2 b sarcastic. Just be candid and inform them
about your financial situation. Remnember this is an African tradition, that the one(s) abroad assist those downtown. Remember that it's like
an obligation. Do the best you can. Be laid back about it also.

Nobody is obligated to do anything. We do things because we want to.
When last did someone in the village go and bring me an orange from
the tree? Hmm? Yet they want want want.
Everyone has to get by in life.
Sometimes bitter medicine needs to be given to get the point across.
I know many people who have gotten into debt, taking loans from the
bank just to impress people back home.
When said person comes back they have no way of paying the loans
back, missing payments going into arrears.
Meanwhile people at home think the land flows with milk and honey.
The truth must be told no pretense.

That's the thing....................they don't want to come (and some are unable to come) and experience things, they just want the benefits!
In other words: crab will drink water through crawfish or monkey work and baboon draw! |

Pacman we first have to start with the brother and sisters in America that go back home and pretent to family and friends like they do have money tree in their back yard. They don't explain to people how some of them are working 2 to 3 jobs just to make ends meet. When our brothers and sisters go back home with that pride attitude, people are going to expect more from us. |

Thankyou Krugirl.. many act like they have made it
big time.. when really they are doing 2-3 jobs to make
ends meet. I often wonder why folk like to make out
that things are so easy in the Western World.

Not only do they work 2-3 jobs to pay for this "trip" home, but they don't explain to their relatives about the $9.99 outfits they are wearing and the "fake" Gucci, Coach, Fendi etc.
And lets not forget the "by the dozen" deals too......................
I think sometimes we as individuals are inconsiderate of others, and selfish too.
I have a friend that calls me to assist with tuition, which is a reasonable request; but this person calls at least two or three times a day!
Where are you getting the money to fund your cell phone? That you can't use for your own tuition? |
