i'm just curious to know whether their are many mixed people in liberia or are their very few, if so, what areas have the largest population of mulattos. i myself am a young american but my parents are both liberian mulattos. my mom is half lebanese and my dad is half white. |

I think this is a touchy topic. We are already trying to get away from the whole "tribalism" issue, that this is one aspect of being a Liberian that kinda rings a familiar tone!
Is it not enough to be a Liberian? Does the shade matter? I think as a Liberian alone is such a wonderful association, you don't need to break it down any further.
If I may encourage you: you are a member of a dynamic race! As a Liberian, no one really cares if you're mixed, pure, or whatever else is out there! |

i think you people are very annoying in my opinion, maybe i should never have joined this site. this has nothing to do with tribalism. its just a simple question. for god sake. you are rude for saying some of the comments. there is nothing wrong with asking a question about my heritage, |

We're not trying to annoy you, if you've spent anytime in Liberia you'll understand why the topic was a touchy one. But there's no need to get upset and leave. This
is
THE BEST SITE on the web.
Thanks for changing your mind. And please continue to participate............we love that!
There's another part of your heritage that we'd love to help you get in touch with if you have not already explored that!
So have you been to Liberia before? |

i have only been to liberia once, when i was about 3 or 4 and remember very little, back in 1995. im 15 now and would like to visit there one day. the sad thing is that me and my family could hardly go there because of the war but now that it is over we should hopefully go sooner or later to visit. but the sad thing is that alot of our relatives died and some have left liberia to go to lebanon, ghana and america of course. i hope i can go soon. i recently found that there was a liberian boy in my school and when he found out i was one he told me i wasn't a real liberian and i told him he was ignorant and the funny thing is that he wasn't a a proper liberian himself, i found out his father was a freetown man and his mother was half liberian and guinean so how the hell can he tell me i am not a real liberian when he is only about 25 per cent. he is cool and everything but i found his statement ignorant. |

It was ignorant........but you'll come in contact with alot of that.
My daughter left Liberia when she was 6 yrs and has no memories except those that I have passed on to her; she recently graduated from college and all she wanted was a trip to Liberia!
Currently things are getting better, there are hotels, and hostels where one can stay for the duration of your visit. Finding someone trust worthy to take you around may prove a little difficult, but your parents may be able to find some old friends that returned home after things quieted down.
I'm sorry about your relatives, the war was just a total waste of human lives. I believe more people died than what was accounted for by the BBC and other news agencies.
In any event, there always remains a love in your heart for Liberia. Things that you never experience anywhere else!
As irritating as it was, I still remember waking up to the sound of a rooster crowing or someone yelling "rogue" ( that's what we call thieves). Ask your mom about that one! |
