Life in America is hard..............................cuz the cost of living is much higher than back home. Am I ready to forgo the ammenities that I have here and go home? No.
I don't know where you are, but you might want to find out about Liberian Organizations in your area. There are tribal organizations, high school as well as social organization; it's all based on what you're interested in.
Despite the hard work, I still find time to have fun, make new friends and hang out with the old. You know that old saying: "All work and no play, makes Jack a very wealthy man, who can buy friends if he wants to"
Sorry curious.......................I couldn't resist!
Despite all you've said.............you've made the right decision by joining this site! Welcome, bro. |

......very interesting comments, Curious. I think there are a LOT of people that feel the same way as you do. My opinion is that America is not a true country, but a machine driven by greed and other selfish desires. Those of us that get sucked up into it end up being slaves to the system. Huge corporations dictate our way of life, and slowly they are squeezing the life out our souls.........I say, "to hell with them".....I'm going home.!!! |

Curios, how long have you been in the States?
You sound very home-sick. You know what they
say, There is no place like home.
But like Rina has pointed out, there are pros and
cons for living in the States or where ever one might
decide to live.

HI EVERYONE, I would like to say to Rina, please don't discourage people from thinking abot going to their homeland, that ofcourse is LIBERIA. Curious was right about what he or she feels. I for one, feel very much the same. That's why, for the past few years, I have build a home, opened a company, give employment to my people, live with them, laugh with them once again, that makes me feel so good. No matter how much riches we come to have in these foriegn countries, they can never be our motherland. Also with all the riches that we claim to have, now is the time that your country need you. Remember, there is no where like home, home sweet home.
Take this, ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT, WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY.
THE GREAT JFK.

If you feel that way than you should go home. Why stay in a country that you are not happy in? Maybe Liberia could benefit from you coming home, and maybe there is somthing you can do to help your country?
If you dont mind me asking, what are the reasons you came to the States? |

....don't know about Curious, but I'd like to recant my statement. Sometimes the "magic bush" gets the best of me. Honestly, I think America is a very special place and I think most Liberians are gratefull to be here. It's just that sometimes home sickness can be overwhelming especially when life gets stressfull. It's easy to fall back on the "better times" and use fond memories as an escape for a moment. I personally have made a lot of good friends here and life is good, but if I knew for sure that I could make a living back home, there's a good chance I'd move back. |

Homesick.... I know that feeling, it can be hard to deal with. I think everyone feels this when they are away from home no matter where your from. There are somethings you can do that will help with homesickness, if you have people around you that are from your country I think that can help and if you keep yourself busy and surround yourself with postive people than your spirt may be lifted.
Its really hard when you feel like you have two homes because no matter which one your in you feel homesick for the one your not in! That can be confusing, but I guess its important to enjoy where you are at the time you are there because if you spend all your time missing your home then once you finally get back home you will reget that you did not enjoy and embrass the time you had when you where away!
Okay I hope that makes since... it does in my head but I dont know if it will to you all now that I wrote it out:) |

Want To Go Home!!!! There's a lot i have gained from the American experience. Now it's time that i take that back to Liberia and put it into better use than to stay here and get pushed around, with no chance of equal competition. I'm leaving this summer!!! June 2008! |

Hi,
Stop FAKING people Africa is waaaaaaaay more STRESS FREE to live than America. Almost everyone in America is indepted to some kind of loans or credit cards, The rate at which people commit suicide or become mental retarded is alarming. Racial discrimination isnt getting any better at all, its media is becoming more and more profane making teenagers sexually explicit! come on people i can go on and on ha.
The only two good things any african can get from America is education and money as far as i am concern money can not buy happiness in a world full of RACIAL discrimantion and continuous numerous BILLS.
Please most people who think America is Heaven are people who never really lived a self sufficient life in Africa they came to America before they could even afford to own basic needs like a cell phone, TV or even good clothes they quickly got carried away.
Some people had their own houses, cars and businesses before coming here they are the people who know what happiness truely is not what you call here cool life, living in a house that you dont freaking own, driving a fancy car you dont own or is it spending money you dont really have ha? tell me? PLEASE ALL SMART AFRICANS KNOW WHY THEY ARE HERE, ITS ALL A MATTER OF TIME they will be out.
To you and I that God has oportuned to come here it is our obligation to either get educated or find money and go back home to help develop our continent, stop fooling yourself you are not an American or British and you never will be one, the colour of your skin already depicts your category so my people stop fooling yourself even african americans who were born here are freaking frustrated and neglected what makes you think u any better? You only need to live here for minimum five years to understand what they are going through imagine living here for the rest of your life then put your self in their shoes u will understand their fustration.
Love to all straight headed Liberians and thanks for every dollar u send home God bless you for that. yeah men som people are sooo niave u know....... |

Ex'cuz my ignorance. The civil war off course sent lots of Liberians into the diaspora, particularly to USA. Is this because the old ties with America? Is it mainly the so called America-Liberians that took refuge to USA or did lots of so called indidgenous Liberians that aswell.
BTW-agree-it must be tough settling down in the US. It's a good country if you got the money, otherwise lots of hardship. |
