This message is for those of you residing outside of Liberia mainly the (US, Europe).
There are rumors going around that, the Yams, Dried fish etc. that we buy from the African markets abroad are
NOT
safe. If you go back home and bring it yourself, that's fine but if you buy it abroad,
BEWARE
. To prevent them from spoiling when shipping them oversees, these venders inject the yams and dried fish with
EMBALMING FLUID
, which is used to keep dead people from decaying early. This substance is not meant to be eaten and is harmul if digested, and can cause Cancer. Many Liberians in the diaspora are getting sick with cancer or even death because of the consumption of this substance little by little.
I don't know how true is this story that I came accross from one african site. but I would assume that it is true.
I had always wondered how the yams and the dried fish can last so long there without spoiling, because in Liberia, I remember seeing little worms in the fish but not the ones abroad. I guess this is the reason why.
It is really sad how a person will jeopardize another person's life just to earn some money.
Just to inform you guys. |

Who knows what chemicals they put in foods to preserve them.
Is the link still available?

That is just plain disgusting, if it's true. Several questions came to mind after the urge to "hurl" passed.
1. Where are they getting the access to this drug? I mean you can't just buy it in a drug store.
2. These foods have to pass inspection, meaning you have to apply for a licence to import the food. How are they passing American inspections?
3. It's not only the "embalming fluid" (formaldehyde) to worry about, but also those needles used for injecting.
Damn! If it ain't one thing it's another! |

Nothing surprises me these days. I have seen documentaries
where African stores have been shut down because of the
rotten dried fish, mokey meat, snails etc that they sell.
There is always somebody who knows somebody who works
somewhere where they can obtain chemicals and drugs that
should not be in the hands of unqualified people.
Once money is there to be gained people will do anything for it.
No conciences!!

The thing is even what you buy in the grocery store is "shot" full of hormones(chemicals)! I just purchase my African food from one person whom I trust, and that's it! |

Just goes to show one cannot be too careful where food is concerned.
