Hello every one,
It can very intriguing to me to see liberians showing so much love and support to other nationals and neglecting their own. What is the problem people?
I recently got promoted at work immediately after the pronouncement was made i had alot of people come congratulate me but my people. They frowned and didnt even smile back at me. Now they dont even respond me i greet them. They gossip with the Asians saying she doesnt deserve it, she is too new, she is this she is that, come on people in a company where whites are the majority I expected to receive much love and support from my people. Even Liberians i used to laugh and joke with dont even want to smile back.
It is other africans from Nigeria, Keyan and Ghana who embraced me and even organized a pot-luck for me. What is our problem people is it iliteracy or selfishness? why do we envy one another so much? I thought people are supposed to be more united when they are far away from home.
I left liberia at age 12 lived in Ghana for 11years before migrating to the States so i probably dont comprehend thier ways of life some one please educate me. I love Liberians but i am sometimes so very afraid of them, i find my self very happy around the keyans and ghanaians most of them have a very quiet and simple life which i admire alot. |

Please forgive me for the many errors I was lying in bed whiles typing. In the first paragraph i meant "Now they dont even respond to me when i greet them." i also meant illiteracy thanks everyone. |

I don't see this as a racial thing. What I see is people at
work who think you were not the right person for the job.
Most people who have been promoted, usually find that
staff who have been there longer, will moan and complain
that they should have got the promotion and not them.
Some will be pleased for you and others won't, some
will pretend they are pleased but deep down they are not.
Just get on with your new job and if anyone complains to
your hearing or you are being bullied in the office, then
keep a date of times, dates and who said exactly what.
You can then take this to your Boss and they can deal with it.
Remember people will always have reasons they think are
valid to be jealous of you.
Don't take it to heart. Do your job and do it well, you owe
the complainers and whingers nothing.
That's my advice.

It has alot to do with jealousy! In their minds, they have totally ignored the fact that you are qualifided for the job.
That is a situation that was rampant in Liberia before the war. Individuals were using witchcraft to kill or injure people for positions that they did not qualify for.
I like to think of individuals like the ones you work with as the "Doe era" employees........those that got promoted based on their tribal affliations; or on the "who know you" basis.
Don't allow small minded people to darken your joy. Congrats on the new promotion. This is one Liberian who celebrates other success. |
