hi, I am an american who is adopting two Liberian children and I am traveling to Liberia to pick them up at the end of september! I have never been out of America so this is all new for me! I have studied for a long time about Liberia and I Love your Country and my heart goes out to Liberia. The US embassy has travel warnings to Liberia so it makes me a little scared but I have faith that I will be fine! I wish I knew people over there but I don't! Can anybody tell me more about visting Liberia and maybe tips on what is good to eat and how to stay safe?
Thank you and God Bless your country!

Hi Jolie:
Thanks for your humanitarian resolve to adopt two Liberian children and bring them over to America.
However, just as you want an advice to travel to Liberia from Liberians, it would be even better were you to disclose the names of the two children and maybe explain how you got in touch with them. Who knows? Maybe the children already have some relatives in America with whom you could liaise if you get to know them just by disclosing the names of the two children.
By the way, are these children boys or girls, and what are their ages?? Are they of the same family connection? Do you have their respective profiles. And what is your own status in America.
I actually mean no harm for raising the above concerns; but it is an open secret that Liberian children have been exploited over the years, more especially the past fourteen years as a result of our national crisis.
I would be glad to get a response from you before I can attempt to give you some information as per your request.

I understand you concern, I have heard of that happening as well! I would not want to be invovled in anything like that. Both my children have been brought into the orphanage in Liberia by their birth mothers. Their one of the birth Mothers is 13 and could not take care of her baby. The other is from a displacement camp and was unable to provide care for her son. Both the mothers came to the orphange asking them to take their children so that they can get adopted and have food and things they need. They both gave up their children out of love and waiting more for their children then they felt they could give. I don't have a lot of info on the mothers besides that. I am talking with the orphange to see if I can help the mothers maybe get an education or somthing by sending some money every month. I really want my children to know about their Liberian mothers.
All the orphange has on my children is their first name and birth dates and I really don't feel good about giving that away, I hope you understand. The agency I am working with is called Acres Of Hope, I hear they are very honest and check these children out well. Is there anyway I can tell for sure if these children have been exploded? What have you heard going wrong with Liberian Adoptions? I am a, I guess, plain white american woman! I was born here and I have never been out of America but I am so excited to vist Liberia. I pray for Liberia every night and have studied the history! I know Liberia is a wonderful country who has suffered alot and I think that the suffering needs to be over and the country and raise up and show it's true colors! Thanks for your reply, if you have more advice please let me know. Also, I would I find out if my Liberian children have family in America?
Thank you
Julie |
