Hi all,

I don't know if you've heard about what's going on with Liberian refugees in Ghana the past few weeks. Below are links I thought to share to 1. highlight the level of ignorance and stupidity of some Ghanaians and 2. the Ghanaian media protrayal of the issue.

Hi folks,

When I posted this info about the plight of our brethren in Ghana, I assumed it would garner enough interest and response since some of them do have a genuine case. Anyway, things have turned out for the worse (worser as some of our peeps will say). As of 5am today, GMT, police vehicles and buses went on the camp and forcefully pulled people from their homes into the buses- without any explaination. This is not 'they say', I saw with my own eyes and have pictures to prove it. Hopefully, I'll have them uploaded today.

Liberians in Ghana, esp those on the camp, are being treated worse than slaves. It reminds me of a being a black man before the civil rights movement and even after in the States. They, we, deserve better. No statement has been issued from the Liberian embassy here or the government of Liberia. Wake up people!

I don't even know where this whole idea of
boundaries, visas etc came in. Human beings
are plain old greedy. The land was here before
we are born and we aint taking it to the grave
with us.
It upsets me.. Land is for all to enjoy and wander
from place to place without let or hinderance.
Instead leaders want to grow rich by making people
pay for pieces of paper just so they can walk and
breath on the land that belongs to NOBODY.
How can they treat people like they are nothing. I think
the Human Rights should get involved with this.
Even animals seem to have better rights.
Leaders with no concience. <sighs>

Hi Y'all,

Finally, I got a mail that I found worth forwarding instead of the ones that say 'if u dont forward, your nuts will drop off in five days'.

I read that our Reps on Capitol Hill queried the UNHCR that if Sierra Leonenian Refugees in Liberia have a $15,000 per family package for Liberia then why is it that Liberian Refugees cant even get $1,000 per family but $100 per family (up from $5 per family since the women started the sit-down protest @ Buduburam)?

Why the discrepancy????????

Why, according to the news report, did UNHCR Ghana and NADMO (National Disaster Management Org) request the Government for the refugee Women whom were protesting peacefully by merely sitting down for 3 weeks on the football field on the refugee camp which is under their (UNHCR & NADMO) supervision to be arrested and carted off to wherever pending deportation? Something stinks and it aint my Aunt Fanny's Fanny. Have allocated funds for resettlement been depleted by non-refugees? Lets pull rope so rope can pull bush and when the big monkey jump outside, we will know the full story.

I saw a petition going around for signing which I'm pasting below:

Please sign the petition calling on authorities to insure that the rights of refugees in Ghana are being upheld:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/LiberianRefugees/index.html

It will be passed on to authorities as soon as we garner enough support.
This petition is co-sponsored by a group of NGOs and individuals who have worked and are currently working in the Buduburam refugee settlement.
Thank you.
