I would not make my dad out to be a saint. He had his flaws like any human being. He loved all the women he went out with and made them his common law wives. My mom was his legally married wife.I write about my dad because of what I see in the Liberian society today.I am just trying to state the fact that men of scruples and integrity have lived/still live in Liberia and we should recognize them and shower praises on them.
My dad always told us the story of the plane crash, when the pilot died and he was left with hundred of thousands of dollars in those days(salaries of military personnel)which he could have esconded with but he did not.Whenever this story was told, I rediculed him for being too honest because we did not live the life befitting his position. My dad let me fail instead of paying a bribe to let me be promoted to the twelve grade, that was the kind of man he was. After almost 38 years of military service, there is no one in the military or the entire country(maybe one,me in the past) that has ever spoken evil about this man I called Babi(big brother in kru).In my entire life, no one in the past or present has ever said a bad word about the man they called``sugar tongue``.Why is that, I sometimes ask myself, no one can be so good or can they?As I sit far away from Liberia, the reason has dawned on me.He was a true man in the true sense of the word.He always told me ``son,a good name is better than great riches``. I did not understand then, now I do.He got his greatest wish and that was to be buried with honor. He got it.Men of character and integrity are lacking in the Liberian society. I believe we (the youth)have to try and rekindle that spirit.Thank you Babi for showing me what a true man really is. |

Very beautiful Denzel
Integrity and character is something that our world is lacking. Especially in our generation the concept is foreign to many. Those who dare to be diffrent and practice are ridiculed and look upon as being naive.
Spoken by someone who is not claiming to be a saint but I am aware of the benefit of character and intergrity. Its a silent joy one can't share with anyone else or expect any rewards.
Now for the great ones they make it a way of life.. |

That man had a strength that many people in the world lack.
God bless Him.
