Isn't it amazing how many homosexuals are now in the Liberian community? I mean a few years back you could count on your hand the number of homosexuals,.......now if you throw a rock you're bound to hit one.
And now there's this "down low" thing?

Please do not use this forum for "bashing", I just want your insight on why the increase. And what factors attributed to it. And please no profanity!

I feel that homesexuality has always been in liberia, but now like every where its more of a fad. I dont feel that people just became gay over night but it just became more socially tolerated! So now people are like hay take it or leave it!

MY RESPONSE: It's good that you stated the fact that homosexualism has invariably been present within the liberian community but the number has increased over the years.

However, it is also prudent to consider the fact that perhaps there was a lot more closeted homosexuals than those who were openly gay because of our knowingly past intolerence for such practices.
Hence, as our ability to be non-judgemental as well as our tolerence for homosexualism increased over the years the number of those who are openly gay has increased also over the years.

And those two factors greatly influenced why homosexuals are stigmatised in the society.

I guess this forum right here is just an example of how beautiful I think it was for me to be raised in Liberia. I remember in school you could not even say the word fag out loud. LOL I attended a Catholic School so hey we all know what went on there of course. I wonder what it will be like when we all finally go back and we have all these diffrent mentalities all these diffrent ways of looking at things. Take homosexuality for example I wonder if kids/individuals will come out of the supposed closet to all the family members.

Remember the round table discussion when we were growing up. The one that they call all the family members and you have the (make it thick) family member that is making things worst...LOL Man I was so bad when I was younger I was the topic of that discussion every sunday.lol

Anyway just some of my thoughts..sorry for getting off the topic ladies....

You know blackdi, I had a cousin who everybody said he was "spoiled". You know every year he would show up at a family function in some "booty" shorts and my mom and sisters would say "oh that boy so spoiled".
He came out a few years ago...and I had the opportunity to ask my mom and her sisters what they thought about that. But it is amazing ....how the older folks either turned a blind eye to it or explained it away!.......And oh how those.nuns and priests behaved back home (student of STC)!

Rinabear dont get me started on the nun's and priest back home. It funny now as an adult when I think back every young boy who had some rumor around him about being gay came from a catholic school. Those priest used Liberia as a serious stomping ground I don't care what anyone says. This is why I just beleive in God and not the church. See I figure if I go to church I will get my message diluted by some do as I say and not as I do. I got a direct line minus the Church Politics...

It's interesting that today we Liberians can even come out and talk about homosexualism. This is something that have been around for a long time in Liberia. Lets not make it look like you could have caught it.
You wake up in the morning and a gay guy sneeze on you and out of a certain you start working and talking funny. If you are a gay be gay.
If God did create the gay gene in everything that reproduces biologically through intercourse, then there will be a gay dog, gay cat, and even on the farm, there will be a big old gay cow....
Accept yourself for who you are.......... Don't feel ashamed of your sexuality.

That's just it, I know God didn't create any person gay. I think it's a personal preference. I may be wrong, but I'm sure God did not make them the way they are.
I just have a problem with people trying to "force" thier lifestyle down my throat. Your choice is your choice. I don't walk around making people deal with the fact that I am heterosexual.
Granted they do recieve some "heat" for this choice, and I do feel sorry for them, but is it worth it? I mean coming out, is it worth the "backlash"?

As the saying goes, in the beginning God made Adam then
He made Eve.
While I am not homophobic, I do not condone the act.
We all know that each of our body parts have a specific
job to do.
Just because we wake up one day and decide to use
it for another purpose does not make it right.

Remember that God once destroyed a whole nation because
of this same act.
I think Gays have been everywhere all the time. Let's not
forget that the Human world began in Africa and much of
God's activities took place there.
Homosexuality/Lesbianism is not something that Africans
suddenly decided to get into.
I think one reason why people did a good job hiding it, is because
we have a lot of cultural taboos and and traditions.

I beg to differ on that Sisi.

Yes Africa is the cradle of civilization, and some in East Africa believe, the start of life; Garden of Eden. I don't believe it is the birth of homosexuality.

I mean think about it: African men have had a problem with too many women; polygamy. Not a desire to be with men.

I believe these "foreign" practices were introduced into our societies when foreigners came to Africa; through pornograpy and their own sick life styles.

For example, with all the wild animals in Africa, I've never heard of any Africans having sex with their animals; but yet beastiality is so prevalent in Europe and America!

I don't know of Nigerian history, but I've never heard of any gay chiefs or warriors! Or farmers neglecting the pleasures of their wives bodies, to have sex with the livestock!

Homosexuality, like so many other things, have been introduced into the African society! They preyed on our inexperience and lack of exposure! Evil or Very Mad

HOW WOULD U ,WHILE IT IS/WAS CLOSETED?homosexuality is both natural and acquired. there i historical facts 2 prove it. it has existed in africa as long as it has existed on other continents, albeit on a much lower level.

it existed during the greek, egyptian, maya and aztec civilizations.it was much more en vogue/prevalent during the roman empire. africa was not spared the gay craze.it has been in africa from time in memorial.

frown upon it, if u may,but please, do not fabricate non-existent facts/theories.

if you wanna understand homosexuals try dicussing(without bias, omit religion 4 a while) and u will c why they are as passionate about their sexual orientation as u i about yours.

i am not gay,(love dem bom bom/chicks 2 much),though i am a gay sympthizer. i am a bit lost about why they do it, however, i have done my best/am still trying to understand them and not play god when it concerns one`s sexual orientation,liberty,emotions............

befriend(i have gay friends) a gay and u might/will understand them better, althouh u may not agree with dem based on r religious up-bringing. the operative word is ``UNDERSTANDING``.

PLEASE DO NOT BECOME A GAY BASHER(INSULTING,CAUSING PHYSICAL HARM)!IF U BECOME ONE, THEN, U I WORSE THAN A RACIST. JUST IMAGINE BEING THE OBJECT OF RACIAL SLURS,ABUSES,ATTACKS........

........I used to be a gay basher until I recently saw an educational program that proved to me that most gays are born that way.....defective genetic make-up is to blame. For me, it is a lot easier to think that gays cannot help themselves. Personnaly, I think the human gene pool is getting more and more scrambled as time goes on resulting in these types of issues. I also believe that the sins of men are passed on to the next generation in one form or another.

......during my 18 years in Liberia, I never met a homo.....
