The formation of a Liberian Soccer League
Date: Sunday, January 06 @ 20:44:45 EST
Topic: Press Release

Officials of sporting organizations came together on Saturday, December 15, 2007 to form the First Liberian Soccer League on the East Coast. For many years, teams in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania have been meeting in tournaments where they pay high registration fees, play less time and sometimes get unprofessional treatments that compromise the dignity of the game in a lot of ways. For most part, the tournaments have been profit making events.

The Liberian Soccer League will provide fun and recreation for the whole family on a regular basis; help our young people to socially develop through the game of soccer while exposing them to opportunities for academic scholarships and the potential of getting professional contracts.

The league will also help to bring structure to some community youth organizations with a specific goal in mind – to fairly as well as consistently compete; as this is a true lesson of life.

ROZA Sports Association in Staten Island, New York hosted the meeting and Mr. Rufus Zumo Arkoi, founder and Executive Director, chaired the meeting. ROZA was founded in 1981 on 12th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia and later established in New York in February 1994. ROZA has a second division team in Liberia (LFA), a youth team in Buduburan camp in Ghana and a youth program in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. ROZA has won states championships (3 times in Minnesota and 1 time in New York).

We are appealing to all interested Liberians and friends with knowledge and experience in supporting sports development (especially the goals of this league) to join in this effort.
