Dr. Togba Nah Tipoteh Endorses President Sirleaf for Run-off

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Standard Bearer of the Unity Party, kicked off campaigning Thursday for the November 8 run-off election with an endorsement by the Freedom Alliance Party of Dr. Togba Nah Tipoteh.

In a statement endorsing President Sirleaf, Dr. Tipoteh said his party’s decision followed observation and evaluation of the two parties in the run-off, based on the issue of societal transparency.

Charles Taylor had US spy agency ties

WASHINGTON - When Charles G. Taylor tied bed sheets together to escape from a second-floor window at the Plymouth House of Correction on Sept. 15, 1985, he was more than a fugitive trying to avoid extradition. He was a sought-after source for American intelligence.

After a quarter-century of silence, the US government has confirmed what has long been rumored: Taylor, who would become president of Liberia and the first African leader tried for war crimes, worked with US spy agencies during his rise as one of the world’s most notorious dictators.

NEC chief James Fromayan resigns ahead of run-off

MONROVIA — Liberia's election chief resigned on Sunday after the opposition, citing fraud in the October 11 presidential first round, threatened to boycott the run-off if he did not step down.

I am resigning to give way to peace. I do not want to be the obstacle to the holding of the run-off election" on November 8, James Fromayan of the National Election Commission said in his resignation letter.
