I am Elijah Wreh and an intransigent devotee of the Obama for America team. I received a phone call from the Obama campaign team in Iowa asking me whether I could volunteer to campaign for Obama during the Iowa Democratic caucus that was slated for January 3rd, 2008.
I agreed and was immediately allied with Amos Budde, a supporter who was scheduled to leave from Minnesota for Iowa on January 1st, New Year day. We left Minnesota on the night of New Year day and arrived in Webster city, Iowa by mid-night.
The next day, we were schedule to campaign in the city of Jewell. We were given a plethora of Literature for Barack Obama and were given a diminutive but attention-grabbing class on how to campaign to the residents of Iowa. As a substance of actuality, Iowa is a State that is 99% White.
In addition to this, we were given a canvass script on how to talk to caucus goers, the script reads Hi, my name is X, Y, Z, and I`m stopping by from Barack Obama`s campaign here in Iowa. How are you? Great! As you know, the Iowa caucuses are coming up this Thursday, January 3rd at 6:30pm. Senator Obama believes that we need to change Washington.
When Obama is president, the days of corporate lobbyists setting the agenda in Washington will be over. He does not take their money in his campaign and when he is president these lobbyists will not drown out our voices in Washington.
There is superfluity of reasons why Obama won the Iowa caucus, the first of it kind for an African-American. First, there was assortment of volunteers from the fifty States. Some of these volunteers were from high profile universities including Yale, John Hopkins University, Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Harvard University, Barack Obama Alma mater. Secondly, we as volunteers brave the cold weather that was about 12° C by going from house to house; standing in the city centers and in the rural parts of Iowa informing caucus goers about the nitty-gritty of Obama policy if he becomes president of the United States. Another interesting thing but appalling to me was an 92 year old Iowan woman with oxygen tank was in the front line making phone calls and in the cold weather campaigning for Obama, the next African-American president of the United States. I called this the Obama virus.
Thirdly, Obama campaign speeches are based on change and hope, but for instance Reverend Jesse Jackson 1988 campaign and Reverend Al Sharpton 2004 campaign were both based on segregation and racism, but for Obama it is contradictory. Additionally, the Iowan press was in act of kindness with the Obama team, while we were campaigning in the Webster city center, my buddy Amos Budde photo was taken and within couples of hours it was on the front page of a leading newspapers in the city of Webster.
In a nutshell, according to Zogby Poll, Obama leads top Republicans, telephone surveys shows fellow Democrats Hilary Clinton and John Edwards would defeat some GOPers, but lose exceedingly to others. Moreover, Obama margins of advantage range from a 4% edge over Arizona Sen. John McCain and a 5% edge over Arkansas ‘Mike Huckabee to an 18% point lead over Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the survey shows. Against New York`s Rudy Giuliani he leads by 9% and against Fred Thompson of Tennessee he holds a 16% point edge.
