How to get to Liberia
By Air
Not a lot of air carriers dare go near Liberia considering the volatile situation. Among the ones that do are the national carriers from Guinea and the Ivory Coast. There are two international airlines making regular flights to Monrovia at a total of six times a week. Bellview Airlines, Belleview aircrafts widely transit between Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and other West African countries.
The international airport is situated some 60km from the city of Monrovia. Taxis and bus services connect the airport and city. The airport also has additional facilities like duty free shops, post office, restaurant and bar.
By Road
The only safe routes by road into Liberia are from Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Guinea. The roads are difficult in the wet season. Buses run direct bus services from these countries to Monrovia, the capital, at least once a week although the border with Sierra Leone has now been shut down indefinitely. Daily bush taxis also run between neighbouring countries to Monrovia.
By Sea
The occasional cargo boats that run between Monrovia and Conakry (Guinea) generally accept passengers but its not recommended as an option. Unscheduled passenger ships also stopover at the various Liberian ports of Monrovia, Buchanan, Greenville, Harper and Robertsport.
