The Ministry is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes aimed at providing employment for youths and helping them to achieve their full potential, spiritually, vocationally and culturally as positively motivated, socially responsible and economically productive citizens through sports oriented activities for recreation, leisure, health and fitness.
Secondly it is responsible for the promotion and development of sports and its infrastructure both in the urban and rural areas with the ultimate aim of creating a vibrant and highly competitive sports industry which will be economically beneficial to Liberia.
The Ministry oversees the following
- Youth Development — Various training programmes have been introduced by the Ministry to help equip youth with skills for both paid and self-employment.
- Sports — Sports plays an important role in youth development. It also promotes nation building through its ability to bring people of all communities together. It also provides lucrative employment opportunities.
The Ministry is headed by Jamesetta Howard-Wolokollie along with some Liberian veteran sportman Marbue Richards.
